When police searched <strong>the</strong> premises, <strong>the</strong>y found “cash and o<strong>the</strong>r items consistent with <strong>the</strong> [defendant’s name] involvement<br />
with <strong>the</strong> supply <strong>of</strong> … drugs and <strong>the</strong> manufacture <strong>of</strong> amphetamine.” 797 They found large quantities <strong>of</strong> money, firearms and<br />
documents that appeared to be associated with illicit drug manufacture. In addition, <strong>the</strong> following prohibited drugs and restricted<br />
substances were located:<br />
• 45.59 grams <strong>of</strong> methylamphetamine<br />
• 5 ml plastic jar <strong>of</strong> methylamphetamine<br />
• 0.69 grams <strong>of</strong> Hydrobutanic Acid (GBH)<br />
• 2 tablets <strong>of</strong> a drug called “V”<br />
• 34.7 grams <strong>of</strong> testosterone (a prescribed restricted substance)<br />
• 242 pseudoephedrine tablets (which can be used as a precursor to make prohibited drugs) and<br />
• 1.4 grams <strong>of</strong> cannabis leaf.<br />
Various documents that may have been associated with <strong>the</strong> manufacture <strong>of</strong> prohibited drugs were also located in two brief cases<br />
found at <strong>the</strong> premises. These included instructions for establishing a clandestine laboratory, and o<strong>the</strong>r documents outlining <strong>the</strong><br />
steps involved in manufacturing amphetamines, LSD and MDMA (ecstasy). <strong>Police</strong> also found receipts for laboratory equipment.<br />
Substantial quantities <strong>of</strong> money were located at <strong>the</strong> premises. An amount <strong>of</strong> $29,140 was found on <strong>the</strong> top <strong>of</strong> a wardrobe in<br />
<strong>of</strong>fender As bedroom, and $1,700 in a top drawer. A large quantity <strong>of</strong> money was also identified in an <strong>of</strong>f shore bank account,<br />
$150,000, and over $40,000 in ano<strong>the</strong>r bank account. Offender A also appeared to own two boats. <strong>Police</strong> noted in a facts sheet<br />
that <strong>of</strong>fender A is unemployed, is “apparently in receipt <strong>of</strong> no legitimate income”, and “has engaged in activities which defies his<br />
apparent means”. 798<br />
A property tracking warrant was executed on Offender As mo<strong>the</strong>r’s house. <strong>Police</strong> found 2.212 kilograms <strong>of</strong> methylamphetamine,<br />
stored in several fridges. 799 They also located items such as laboratory glassware and scales. <strong>Police</strong> stated that <strong>the</strong>y questioned<br />
<strong>of</strong>fender A in relation to <strong>the</strong> manufacture <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 2.212 kilograms <strong>of</strong> methylamphetamine, but he declined to answer any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
questions that were put to him. 800<br />
Case study 26.<br />
<strong>Drug</strong> premises search warrant 2: <strong>of</strong>fender C and D’s premises<br />
A drug premises search warrant was also executed at <strong>the</strong> home <strong>of</strong> two associates <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fender A, who we will call <strong>of</strong>fenders C<br />
and D. During <strong>the</strong> Strike Force investigation, <strong>of</strong>fender C had been identified as having knowingly taken part in <strong>the</strong> supply <strong>of</strong><br />
methylamphetamine.<br />
During <strong>the</strong> execution <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> search warrant, <strong>of</strong>fender’s C and D were asked to declare any items within <strong>the</strong> premises that were<br />
illegal. According to <strong>the</strong> event narrative, <strong>of</strong>fender D:<br />
… indicated to a blue vase situated within <strong>the</strong> dining room <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> premises that contained “Amphetamine”. <strong>Police</strong> seized [this]<br />
vase and a quantity <strong>of</strong> power, crystal and tablets were found, along with a set <strong>of</strong> scales and a spoon.<br />
The search continued and a fur<strong>the</strong>r amount <strong>of</strong> drugs, containing powder, crystal, tablets, and liquid forms <strong>of</strong> drugs were found.<br />
Again within <strong>the</strong> dining room <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> unit. 801<br />
