CHOPRA
THE LIVING LEGEND
For more than 50 years he works in the
film industry and made more than 350 films. He won
all important, relevant and famous awards. Recently
he even published his own biography. He is a living
legend of the Indian cinema and became
successful and famous as the villain of Bollywood.
His sentence “Prem naam hai mera, Prem Chopra”
in the film “Bobby” with Raj Kapoor in the lead,
made him a household name.
He started his career as a circulator of
Times Of India. While doing that job he
started filmmaking and had his first role in
the Punjabi movie “Chaudhary Karnail
Singh”in 1961 which was released in
1964 and became a huge success. Prem
Chopra won his first National Award for
this film and went on with filmmaking, but
the huge success came only some years
later. Only after the successful release of
“Upkaar” in 1967 which became a box
office hit, he left his job at Times Of India
and concentrated fully on filmmaking. And
that's how his unique career in Bollywood
started... In our Interview with Prem Chopra
we look back to these early years and
his achievements and spoke with him
about his plans for the future and his
dreams.
