The city has a highly eclectic array of<br />
architecture and buildings due to its history<br />
as Kingdom of Prussia, the 1871 German<br />
Empire, the Weimar Republic, Nazi<br />
Germany, East Germany, and now the<br />
reunified Germany. Buildings and structurs<br />
like the TV Tower (Fernsehturm) at<br />
Alexanderplatz, the Brandenburg Gate,<br />
the Gendarmenmarkt, the Deutscher<br />
Dom and also the Museum Island as well<br />
as the Potsdamer Platz, the Berlin Philharmonie<br />
and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial<br />
Church are proofs of the architectual variety<br />
of the city. But also outside the city<br />
one can find many historical places like<br />
the Sanssouci in Potsdam, the former<br />
summer palace of Frederick the Great,<br />
King of Prussia, or the concentration<br />
Home of the German government: the Reichstag building.<br />
