two commercial airports:

research universities Alexanderplatz with the TV Tower
(Humboldt University, Free University
of Berlin, Technical University and University
of Arts) and 27 private, professional
and technical colleges which offer a
wide range of disciplines. Research and
development have an economic significance
for Berlin. The metropolitan region
ranks among the Top 3 innovative locations
in the EU. Other important economic
sectors in Berlin include life sciences,
transportation, information and communication
technologies, media
and music,
advertising and design,
biotechnology, environmental
services, construction,
e-commerce,
retail, hotel business
and medical engineering
- many national
and international companies
have business or
service centers in Berlin.
The creative arts sector
comprises music, film,
advertising, architecture,
art, design, fashion,
performing arts and
publishing. Berlin is
home to many international
and regional television
and radio stations and has Germany's
largest number of daily newspapers. Also
Berlin is an important location for the
European and German film industry: in
the city are based more than 1000 film
and television production companies and
