Let’s step back a bit and look at what we are going to do
here. In the next several chapters, I’ll present a rudimentary
methodology that extends your enterprise architecture
out to the clouds. The basic steps of this methodology
include the following:
1. Define the data.
2. Define the services.
3. Define the processes.
4. Define governance.
5. Define which candidate data, services, and processes
should live in the clouds and which should
live on-premise.
Let’s say we did a wonderful job in creating a business
case for cloud computing, as defined in Chapter 4, “Making
the Business Case for Clouds,” and now it is time to
get to work. We start with what is easiest to define, the information,
and work up from there.
The idea is that the better understanding we have
around our existing information, service, and process
models, the better chance that our move to the clouds
will be successful. In some instances, the information
