To make this po<strong>in</strong>t clearer, here are a few examples of physical <strong>in</strong>stances<br />

of architecture. We first selected categories of cloud comput<strong>in</strong>g providers,<br />

<strong>and</strong> then we selected the providers (Example 11.1).<br />

For <strong>in</strong>stance, we may store our data with<strong>in</strong> Amazon Simple DB as well as on<br />

the Amazon EC2 platforms. Then, we might build <strong>and</strong>/or host the services<br />

on the Amazon EC2 platform, say, us<strong>in</strong>g an application server they provide<br />

on-dem<strong>and</strong> with<strong>in</strong> that platform. F<strong>in</strong>ally, we could leverage Appian Anywhere<br />

as the platform where those processes live. Keep <strong>in</strong> m<strong>in</strong>d that the processes are<br />

connected to the services, <strong>and</strong> the services are connected to the data, as we described<br />

<strong>in</strong> earlier chapters. We are just select<strong>in</strong>g the target platforms here.<br />

This solution could become more complex by leverag<strong>in</strong>g more cloud<br />

comput<strong>in</strong>g providers (Example 11.2).<br />
