God’s Gift of Grace
READ: Ephesians 2:4-10
KEY VERSE: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of
yourselves: it is a gift of God. - Ephesians 2:8 (KJV)
Last fall, I attended a conference luncheon. Each person was invited to write
her name on a slip of paper and drop it in a hat. At the end of the program,
names were drawn for a series of prizes. I won the grand prize, a beautiful
designer purse. I did little to earn the prize. I can’t say I deserved it because
other ladies had contributed more to the goals of the organization. Yet I won.
Each day we win the greatest prize of all: God’s grace. If we know and accept
Jesus Christ as our Savior, God shows His love to us even though we have
done nothing to deserve it. Our works never merit the blessings that come
our way. Even when our days appear dark, God makes His presence known.
Grace is an extension of God’s arm in our lives. We can lean on its strength
in time of troubles, on its power to lift us above temptation and toward our
blessings. It is sufficient for every situation. –Doris Hutchinson Collins
LOOKING WITHIN: How can I strengthen my faith so that I will always know
that I cannot move outside of God’s grace?
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving the greatest gift of all and for being
there whenever I need your strength and grace. Amen.
