Redemption<br />

Land of the Free<br />

READ: Luke 4:14-21<br />

KEY VERSES: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me<br />

to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for<br />

the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to<br />

proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” -Luke 4:18-19 (NIV)<br />

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe<br />

free.” This well-known quote by poet Emma Lazarus, memorialized on the<br />

Statue of Liberty, has welcomed people who are homeless, disadvantaged<br />

or immigrant to America, the land of the free, for more than a century. Even<br />

today, these words offer great comfort to those who are disenfranchised. Yet,<br />

God through Christ Jesus has already made provision for our freedom.<br />

Christ died and, in so doing, redeemed the whole world. We only must<br />

confess with our mouth and believe in our heart, and we shall be saved. God’s<br />

promise is an even greater comfort to all humanity than anything humans can<br />

LOOKING WITHIN: How can I show that I truly appreciate and give thanks for<br />

the freedom God has given me through my redeemer?<br />

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of your Son, who died that the<br />

whole world might be saved. Amen.<br />
