A Necessity for Pleasing God
READ: 1 Peter 2:23-25
KEY VERSE: Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we,
having died to sins, might live for righteousness – by whose stripes you were
healed. -1 Peter 2:24 (NKJV)
Righteousness is what we strive for because God is righteous and He calls us
to be righteous. To embrace righteousness is to oppose wickedness and be
open to God’s grace. Righteousness involves obeying God’s will and call on
our lives, and doing what God has determined to be right and just.
Only God can justify and empower us to righteous living. God deemed
Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross a necessity to righteousness living. Romans 3:22
says, “This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who
believe.” God sealed and assured our ability to righteousness by giving us the
omnipresent Holy Spirit.
In doing so, God took away all our excuses and in their places provided every
opportunity for us to be counted among the righteous and justified.
