2.7 Tapered Members<br />
This table is only available when you have selected at least one member with different<br />
cross-sections on both member ends for the design in table 1.1 General Data. Here, you can<br />
check the definition criteria of the tapered members.<br />

Cross-section<br />
Table columns A and B list the cross-sections that are defined on the Member Start and<br />
Member End.<br />
Length<br />
The length of the tapered member is also displayed for checking reasons.<br />
Cut-to-Grain Angle α<br />
<strong>TIMBER</strong> <strong>Pro</strong> determines the cut-to-grain angle on the basis of the geometric conditions. The<br />
design equations used in the program apply only to the cutting angle α ≤ 20° for EN 1995-<br />
1-1 and SIA 265 or α ≤ 10° for DIN 1052. The limit values can be checked and, if necessary,<br />
adjusted in the dialog box National Annex Settings (see Figure 2.5, page 13).<br />
Grain Parallel to Edge<br />
In table column F you define the member edge to which the timber's grain direction is running<br />
parallel. The "top" or "bottom" edge can be clearly determined by means of the orientation<br />
of the local member axis z (see Figure 2.17).<br />
With Ridge<br />
When the check box is ticked in table column G With Ridge, the program performs the design<br />
for the maximum tension stresses perpendicular to the grain and shear from transverse<br />
force in the ridge cross-section, for example according to [1] condition (85) or [4] condition<br />
(6.50).<br />
