10 Community Facilities<br />
10.1 Existing Conditions<br />
A good range of community facilities exist in <strong>Cobram</strong> and generally include<br />
educational facilities and community activity centres/gathering places.<br />
Community facilities are an integral component of the fabric of urban centres. An<br />
equitable distribution of community facilities is essential to the efficient functioning<br />
of a town.<br />
Various community facilities currently exist within <strong>Cobram</strong> including:<br />
− Schools (State primary, Catholic primary, State secondary, Christ the King<br />
Anglican College, special school)<br />
− <strong>Cobram</strong> Hospital (17 acute beds and 5 day stay beds)<br />
− Nursing homes (high and low care facilities)<br />
− Community health services (including aged care, mental health services,<br />
dietician, district nursing, ear nose and throat surgeon, occupational health,<br />
paediatrician, pathology, physio therapy, podiatry, psychiatrist, rural housing<br />
network, social worker, speech pathologist, ultrasound and the like)<br />
− Doctors (two clinics with nine doctors)<br />
− Ambulance<br />
− Supported accommodation<br />
− Library<br />
− Toy library<br />
− Family day care<br />
− Long day care<br />
− Senior citizens<br />
− Neighbourhood/community house<br />
− Service clubs<br />
− Civic centre (700 person capacity)<br />
− Local Paper (<strong>Cobram</strong> Courier)<br />
10.2 Previous Studies<br />
The <strong>Moira</strong> <strong>Shire</strong> <strong>Council</strong> is currently preparing a new Social <strong>Plan</strong> for the<br />
municipality. As part of the information gathering for this project the <strong>Council</strong><br />
prepared a background report as described below.<br />

This background report includes an inventory of the social and community<br />
facilities located in each of the 24 towns and localities within the municipality. In<br />
addition to this list, community consultation was undertaken in February 2006 to<br />
identify some of the social needs for these places. In regard to <strong>Cobram</strong> some of<br />
