MY LIFE WITH ORANGUTANS
58 min. 2007 Denmark (filmed in Indonesia)
Deep in the middle of Borneo’s jungle lives a woman who has become the mother of 600
orangutans. She has dedicated her life to the charismatic animals which are among one of the
world’s most endangered animal species, and she has been struggling hard for the survival of
the orangutan for the past 13 years. Lone Dröscher Nielsen is the head of the world’s largest
rehabilitation centre for orangutans. The purpose is to help apes, who have lived in captivity
or held illegally as pets, ease their way back into nature. But it is a costly affair to run such a
large centre and now that the primary sponsor has filed for bankruptcy, the centre finds itself
in great economic difficulties. If they fail to find a new sponsor within the near future, Lone
is forced to give up her life’s work.
MU ELU KOOS ORANGUTANGIDEGA
Autor Anna Katrin Nørgaard
Sügaval Borneo džunglis elab Lone Dröscher Nielsen, kes on suure osa oma elust kulutanud
selleks, et taastada orangutangidele elukõblik looduskeskkond. Selle tubli naise hoole all on üle
600 orangutangi, keda on varem peetud illegaalselt koduloomadena. Orangutangid on kõrge
intellektiga karismaatilised olevused, kelle arvukus on vähenenud alla kriitilise piiri.
Anna Katrin Nørgaardi dokfilm maalib sugestiivse pildi inimesest, kes püüab käigus hoida
inimesele lähima imetaja taastuskeskust.
OAK #419
40 min. 2006 USA/Germany
Oak #419 is about the protest movement led by John Quigley, who spent 71 days living in a 400
year old oak tree in Los Angeles County, to try to save it from being cut down for a new highway.
The roadway is to lead to the next projected 20,000 housing unit development. The movement
became much bigger than just this tree, receiving great media attention, and drawing a very
diverse crowd: reporters and camera people, people in frog suits, Latino immigrants, Filippino
immigrants, cheerleaders, Native Americans and even Santa Claus. Political folk musician Fred
Starner, who participated in the protest, made the music for the film. The film is about someone
having the courage to stand up for what he believes in, and about trying to reclaim democracy
in today’s divided, neoconservative America. The tree became the “proverbial line in the sand”
between nature, and the voracious urban sprawl of L.A. Can one weigh the value of nature
against real estate development? What is “progress”?
TAMM NR. 419
Autor Robert Harding Pittman
Los Angelesi lähedale rajatava uue elurajooni juurde viiva tee ehitusele jääb ette 400-aasta vanune
tamm. Arendaja tahab puud maha saagida, kuid ümbruskonna rahvas on kategooriliselt vastu.
Protestijate eesotsas on John Quigley, kes veedab 71 päeva tamme okstel elades. Robert Hardin
Pittman maalib haarava pildi sellest, kuidas protestilaine kasvab, kuidas tamme kaitseks astuvad
välja mitmed rahvusgrupid, kuidas telekanalid annavad edasi folklaulja Fred Starneri protestilaule
hiigeltamme kaitseks. Dramaatiline konfrontatsioon merkantiilse ja aatelise maailmavaate vahel
lõpeb vana tamme kasuks ning sellest originaalsest lahendusest on palju õppida nii ametnikel
kui arendajatel üle kogu maailma.
PARADISE
58 min. 2007 Sweden
Hans and Kerstin have been married for 65 years. One day, against Kerstin’s will, Hans decides
that they should create a feature wall in their summer house. Their inability to agree on the right
colour and pattern has hindered all earlier attempts at renovation. Through their discussions,
conversations and quarrels, we get an image of the couple’s entire life and relationship. A bright,
loving, provocative and entertaining portrait. Who would have thought that an elderly couple
and a wall might be so captivating!
PARADIIS
Autor Jerzy Sladkowski
Hans ja Kerstin on olnud abielus juba 65 aastat. Ühel ilusal päeval otsustab Hans ilma Kerstinilt
küsimata ära vahetada tapeedi nende ühises suvekodus. Järgneb kirglik vaidlus, milles avanevad
kahe teineteist armastava inimese iseloomud.
Jerzy Sladkowski film on üles võetud ja kokku pandud maheda huumoriga.
