MIMOUNE
11 min. 2006 Spain (filmed in Spain and Moroco)
Illegal immigration is not only a problem to the host society. For immigrants the social uprooting
brings about division of their family. This documentary was born of the desire to put together,
even if it was only through a camera, a family that since long ago wishes to be reunited.
MIMOUNE
Autor Gonzalo Ballester
Gonzalo Ballester püüab videokaamera abil viia kokku välismaale tööle läinud pereisa ja
kodumaale jäänud ema ning lapsed. Virtuaalne taasühinemine on parem kui kestev lahusolek ilma
igasusguse visuaalse kontaktita, kuid muud peale hingehaavade lahtikraapimise see eksperiment
THE NEW KILLING FIELDS
13 min. 2008 Denmark/Germany (filmed in Cambodia)
Would you like to shoot a chicken with an AK47 or a chicken with a bazooka? “The New Killing
Fields” shockingly displays how tourism affects the disarmament in post-war Cambodia.
UUED TAPALAVAD
Autorid Maximilian Westphal ja Knud Brix
Maximilian Westphali ja Knud Brix’i film maalib küllaltki hirmuäratava pildi Ameerika turistidest,
kes raske raha eest ostavad endale võimaluse Kambodža vanadel militaarväljakutel saada rahuldust
tapmisest. Tapariistadeks on püssid ja kuulipildujad, õnnetuteks ohvriteks kuked, kanad, lehmad
ning teised koduloomad.
NGAT IS DEAD: STUDYING MORTUAR TRADITIONS
59 min. 2004-2007 Denmark (filmed in Papua New Guinea)
What does it mean when anthropologists claim to study the cultural traditions of others by
participating in them? This film follows the Dutch anthropologist Ton Otto, who has been
adopted by a family on the island of Baluan in the South Pacific. Due to the death of his
adoptive father he has to take part in mortuary ceremonies whose form and content are however
forcefully contested by different groups of relatives.
Through the ensuing negotiations Ton learns how Baluan people perform and develop their
traditions and not least what role he plays himself. The film is part of long-term fieldwork in
which filmmaking has become integrated in the ongoing dialogue and relations between the
islanders and the anthropologist.
NGAT ON SURNUD. UURIDES MATUSETRADITSIOONE
Autorid Christian Suhr Nielsen ja Ton Otto
Film hollandi antropoloogist Ton Ottost, kes töötab Baluani saarel Vaikse ookeani lõunaosas.
Ton oli adopteeritud ühe põliselanike pere poolt. See pere aga kaotab filmi tegemise ajal
perekonnapea. Kasuisa ärasaatmise tsermoonia on üheks filmi tugisambaks. Teiseks tugisambaks
on antropoloogi suhted saare kogukonnaga, nende sõbralike suhete kasv ja areng.
