HOLD ME TIGHT, LET ME GO
100 min. 2007 UK
Mulberry Bush is not an average school. It costs £113,000 a year and is highly selective. But you
don’t get there by being super rich. Each child is carefully chosen and paid for by local education
authorities hard strapped even to buy enough books for their normal classrooms. They pay for
these children for one reason only: they have no idea what else to do with them. The Mullberry
Bush School is where kids go when they can’t go anywhere else. Children whose behavioural and
emotional problems are so extreme other schools, their parents and care homes have rejected
them. This film explores the remarkable relationships which are formed between the staff and
children. We are drawn into the arduous and emotionally charged process of trying to break
the kids’ violent and self-destructive patterns of behaviour.
HOIA MIND, LASE MUL MINNA
Autor Kim Longinotto
Inglismaal Mulberry Bush’is asuv kool on ebatavaline. Õppimine selles haridusasutuses on eriti
kallis. Ent samas pole tegemist kooliga, kus käivad vaid rikkurite lapsed. Siinsed poisid-tüdrukud
ei sobiks tavakooli. Nad on ülimalt emotsionaalsed ning sageli ka vägivaldsed. Isegi nende
lihased vanemad on neist ära pöördunud. Õpetajad ning kasvatajad püüavad olla lastele uuteks
vanemateks. Tasapisi kujunevadki uutmoodi ema-isa suhted õpilaste ja pedagoogide vahel.
This is a personal exploration of the physical and mental repercussions of emigration. In
1969 a pregnant 18-year-old girl flees her country with her married lover as the Russian tanks
roll into the streets of Prague. They end up in Norway. They have a daughter. They become
successful in the world of theater. At the height of fortune the beautiful mother decides to send
her 14-year-old daughter away. They are never to live together after that. Now the mother lives
in Los Angeles and the father has moved back to Prague. Contact between the family today
is primarily through sporadic phone calls. The movie is an emotional journey of the daughter
trying to map the disintegration of the family.
Autor Margareta Hruza
Tšehhi filmilooja Margareta Hruza püüab oma tõsielufilmiga uurida, kuidas lõhutud Euroopa
ajalugu mõjutas tema vanemate kooselu. Margareta ema oli 18-aastane tüdruk, kes rasedana
koos oma lapse isaga Prahasse sissetunginud tankide eest Läände põgenes. Nad tegid hiilgavat
karjääri Oslo ooperimajas, ent siis otsustas ema ära Los Angelesi kolida. Maragareta oli siis
14-aastane. Nüüd, kolmkümmend seitse aastat hiljem, püüab tütar üksildast ema veel üksildasema
isa juurde tagasi tuua.
