The Caledonia

Run by a loveable Scotsman and
his wife, this Scot-themed pub
serves over 100 types of whisky
and a dozen varieties of cider
as well as Belhaven Best on tap.
You’ll usually find sports on the
television and lots of expat events
but the atmosphere is still very
warm and convivial and feels
very much like a local. As is to
be expected, Caledonia serves
up plenty of traditional fare
including Sunday roasts, haggis
and fish & chips.
Ruszwurm
(I. Szentháromság utca 7;

Set at the heart of the Castle Hill
district, Ruszwurm has the proud
distinction of being Hungary’s
oldest cake shop – open for
business since 1827. The original
cherry-wood fixtures have
been lovingly restored and the
delicious cakes are a favorite of
passing tourists. A clutch of tables
lines the sidewalk, providing a
lovely setting for sampling some
of Budapest’s finest pastries.
Villa Bagatelle
(XII. Németvölgyi út 17;
www.villa-bagatelle.hu)
Set in a historical villa at the
foot of the Buda Hills, Villa
Bagatelle is more than just a
café, it also houses an artisanal
bakery and a design shop. The
real reason to come here is for
the artistically inspired cakes
created in collaboration with
renowned confectioner László
Mihályi. Enjoy these or more
substantial fare on a sunny
terrace overlooking the square.
