Focal Plane Array Imaging First introduced to the commercial market in 1987. cooled infrared focal plane array (IRFPA) imagers have evolved into compact, qualitative and quantitative thermal imagers without scanning optics. These devices have been replacing optomechanically scanned imagers for many applications. The first uncooled infrared focal plane array imagers have been used by the military for several years and became available to thermographers in 1997. Figure 3.6 is a schematic of a typical. uncooled infrared focal plane array imager. Microbolometer arrays are also available. Charlie Chong/ Fion Zhang
