■ Refractory Systems
Industrial structures particularly refractory structures, readily lend themselves
to thermographic investigations. Damage or wear to a refractory structure
invariably results in the breakdown of thermal resistance. Heat escapes
through the worn or damaged sections and can be seen on the thermogram.
An example of this is illustrated ill Figure 5.10 where the slight vertical crack
in the center of the stack results in a distinct temperature increase.
