Characteristic X-Rays (KeV) of the Elements
These characteristic x-rays originate in the shell of the atom
and can be used to identify specific elements but not a
specific isotope. These characteristic x-rays are emitted from
the shell of the atom after sufficient energy in the form of
thermal heat, laser, micro- waves, or other type of energy is
directed into the atom shell.
