Madok Manufacturing Meeting the customer’s needs Simple formula proves a successful recipe Madok Manufacturing Limited of Brantford, Ont. has found success, in large part, through its • ability to respond to the needs of its customers, reports company president Allan Antcliffe, P.Eng. In a nutshell, the company’s formula revolves around its ability to provide high quality heat transfer coils which are custom-designed to the specific application, competitively priced and delivered fast and on time – every time, he added. Incorporated in 1975, Madok is a Canadian manufacturer of custom designed copper tube/aluminum plate-fin heat transfer coils and has been licensed to distribute and apply Heresite(r) protective coatings in Canada since 1987. “Our early growth was based on our ability to supply ‘exact’ replacements, within very short lead times, for heating and cooling coils which had failed due to freezing, corrosion or other causes. While rapid delivery of replacement coils remains an important part of our business, we supply many new coil applications as well,” Antcliffe reports. Madok currently supplies: Booster coils Fluid (cooling and heating) coils Standard steam coils • Evaporator coils Condenser/heat reclaim coils • Special coils Standard lead time is four weeks, with a one-week ‘fast delivery’ option normally available. The addition of Heresite protective coatings was a logical extension of the coil business. Heresite prolongs the life of heating and cooling coils, air/fume handling equipment and other components that must be installed in a corrosive atmosphere, including salt water, Antcliffe explained. While Heresite coating can be applied to Madok products, the majority of the company’s coating business is applied to coils and other components – including complete units – supplied by customers across Canada. Madok will showcase its line of heat transfer coils and Heresite coatings at CMX 2004 in Toronto March 25-27. “As a small business with no outside sales force and a limited travel budget, the CMX show provides an opportunity for face-to-face meetings with many current and potential customers whom we would otherwise only communicate with by telephone or fax,” reports Antcliffe. The company has established a web site at www.madok.com and is seeing an increasing percentage of business communications by e-mail. Like any successful company, those individuals who deal with customers on a day-to-day basis play a major role. They include: Antcliffe, a mechanical engineer and 27-year veteran of the HVAC/R industry. He joined Madok in 1994 after 17 years with KeepRite and purchased the company in 1996. Randy Catherwood, inside sales, joined Madok in 1983 and is best able to discuss how Madok’s coil-making capabilities can match customer requirements. He joined Madok in 1994 and is primarily involved with custom products, including heating/cooling coils. Success also means support for the industry as a whole. Madok contributes to ASHRAE research at the ‘Investor’ level. Antcliffe is currently president of the Brantford chapter of RSES and has been a speaker at the organization’s national conferences in the past. The company is the founder and ongoing sponsor of the Irvin M. Bodine Memorial Award presented annually to the individual achieving the highest RSES certificate examination mark (for CM designation) during the previous year. What does the future hold for this small manufacturer?
