Trinity boiler is
quietly efficient
Canadian HVAC manufacturer NTI
(formerly NY Thermal) promises
that its Trinity Ultra High-
Efficiency Boiler and Water Heater will
create a new standard for efficiency and
flexibility in North America’s residential
boiler market.
EnergyStar rated, the Trinity offers
two models (150 and 200) modulating
between 50 and 200 MBH. Both have a
proven efficiency of up to 92% AFUE.
Fueled by natural gas or propane, the
units are flexible because they can be
installed in many locations within a home.
Mounted on a wall, they open up
floor area. Compact at 15" x 20" x 23"
(38cm x 50.8cm x 58.4cm), they go
many places other boilers cannot.
Tankless, they reduce energy losses from
standing hot water.
The boilers operate at only 40 dB
thanks to a casing design that virtually
eliminates combustion noises. Jim
Derry, owner of Middletown Sheet
Metal in Bradford, Ontario, says “It’s
amazing how that thing runs, what kind
of range it has, but to actually see it
there... it’s so quiet.”
The Trinity’s combustion system is
totally sealed off from the house, decreasing
heating costs. All combustion
air is drawn from outside, used for
combustion and then expelled.
The units require zero clearance to
combustibles and can be direct vented
through the wall to the outside using 2"
or 3" ABS or CPVC pipe.
Suitable for new construction, custom
homes and retrofits, Trinity boilers
have many applications. Middletown
has used them to heat “everything from
swimming pools to hot tubs, Jacuzzis,
ice melters and in floor heating systems,”
Derry says.
As is, the Trinity can supply the hot
water for baseboard and hydronic heating
systems. Add a fan coil and they are
forced air furnaces. A “Combi” model,
which comes with a second heat
exchanger, can do double duty, providing
households with both heat and
domestic hot water. Mr. Derry’s company
has used the Combi model for most
of its installations. “Installation is quick,
easy with no space required because
they hang on the wall,” he notes.

It also provides an outdoor sensor for
automatic boiler temperature reset, and a
routine that activates the pump for five
seconds every 72 hours to prevent seizing.
Mr. Derry says that properly
installed and “tweaked” the units are
incredibly efficient. “The Bacharach
printouts” rate the Trinity “from 94%
to 99.5% efficient...that doesn’t lie, they
are that good.”
Another feature of the Trinity is
NTI’s new, state-of-the-art combustion
system. This system allows modulation
of the burner flame to the appropriate
size depending upon the water flow and
required temperature. It incorporates a
Pneumatic Augmented Modulated
(PAM) valve to precisely reduce the
amount of gas that is injected into the
burner, to ensure proper combustion
throughout the full range of modulation.
The system also compensates for
extended venting, removing the need
for adjustments between short and long
vent runs.
An innovative condensing heat
exchanger constructed from 316-L
stainless steel provides virtually endless
hot water at 70-85% efficiency. One

boiler unit delivers up to 5.5 US gallons
(21 litres) of water per minute at a constant
temperature of 120°F.
The Trinity is manufactured to CSA
and AGA standards and codes.
