Children can share theirknowledge about farm safety by orienting an imaginary visitor.Children imagine some friends from the city are coming to stay <strong>for</strong> a holiday, but they don’tknow anything about farms or rural properties. Children can:Letter-writingSynthesisFarm muralRole playApplication• Write a letter to the friend describing how much they are looking <strong>for</strong>ward to the visit, some ofthe activities they will do, some of the hazards to avoid and safety rules to follow.• Draw a picture / make models of themselves and the friend doing an activity safely on the farmand add these to the farm mural/model.• Role-play giving their friend from the city a guided tour around your mural / model farm,explaining different features and the importance of safe play areas and safety rules.Activity 2: WHAT DO YOU THINK?Keypoint: Children reflect and express what they liked and what they learned about farms throughthe unit and have the opportunity to take parents on a ‘tour’ of their class mural / modelClass PresentationApplicationInvite parents to come to the class to view the farm unit class mural / model, posters andchildren’s workbooks. Children can:• Take their parents on a virtual ‘tour’ of the model or mural, showing the different featuresand safety aspects.Book workEvaluation• Give a grade presentation at a school assembly, incorporating role plays, farm visit recountsand letter reading etc.• Farm safety promotional <strong>resource</strong>s* can be made available <strong>for</strong> parents to take home.In their workbooks, children can write a summary to describe:• What they liked most / and least about the farm unit and why• What they have learned about farms from the unit• What they think are important ways to stay safe on farms.Take home farm safetymaterials*44
