Afterward he went to trainingcamp with the <strong>Chargers</strong> in ’92 and Houston in ’93.Raye spent the 1994 season as the wide receivers coach atIrvine High School. He worked for Amsterdam of the WorldLeague in April ’95 and then spent the NFL season as an offensiveassistant-quality control coach for the Kansas City Chiefs.Raye was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina. After hisfamily moved to California, he became an all-league quarterbackand defensive back at Irvine HS. He also play ed basketballand ran track. Raye’s father, Jimmy Raye II, played for thePhiladelphia Eagles in 1969 and is currently the senior offensiveassistant coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The <strong>2012</strong>season will mark his 35th year as an NFL assistant coach.JOHN SPANO<strong>SD</strong>irector of College Scouting17th NFL Season15th season with <strong>Chargers</strong>John Spanos coordinates the team’s scouting efforts inpreparation for the NFL Draft. He spent the 2003-05 seasonsas a pro and college scout and 2006-07 seasons asassistant director of college scouting. He also assists in contractsand managing the salary cap.Spanos first started working for the <strong>Chargers</strong> in 1995.While in high school, he worked summers as an assistant inthe team’s football operations office. From 1998-00 heworked under the direction of Ed McGuire, who schooled himin contract negotiations and managing the salary cap.From 2001-03, Spanos served two stints in the NFL’sManagement Council office in New York, learning a widerange of league procedures, reviewing new player contractsand assisting in the League’s salary cap reconciliation process.In June 2010, in recognition of his achievement in Businessand Community Leadership, Spanos was named one of the “Top40 Under 40” Greek Americans by Greek America Magazine.Spanos was born in Stockton, California. He attended TheBishop’s School in La Jolla where he won three CIF Championshipsin football, basketball and golf. Spanos played widereceiver and defensive back for the Knights. In 2002, he graduatedfrom Wake Forest University with a degree in business.Spanos married the former Jodie Badgley in La Jolla, Calif.,in June 2011.RANDY MUELLERSenior Executive27th NFL Season5th season with <strong>Chargers</strong>Randy Mueller scouts top player prospects throughout thecountry. He has 25 years of NFL experience, including twoseasons as general manager of the New Orleans SaintsDENNIS ABRAHAMDirector of Pro Scouting17th NFL Season12th season with <strong>Chargers</strong>Dennis Abraham coordinates the procurement of playersduring free agency, while also scouting and evaluating playersin the NFL and Canadian Football League. During the season,(2000-01) and three with Miami (2005-07). During his firstseason as GM of the Saints, Mueller was named NFL Executiveof the Year by The Sporting News. In between the Saintsand Dolphins, he worked as an analyst at ESPN (2002-04).Mueller spent 17 years with the Seattle <strong>Seahawks</strong>, joiningthe club in 1983 as a pro personnel assistant. In 1990 he wasnamed pro personnel director and in ’95 he was promoted tovice president of football operations.A native of St. Maries, Idaho, Mueller played quarterback atLinfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. As a senior, he ledthe Wildcats to the NAIA Division II National Championshipand was named MVP of the title game.Mueller and his wife, Lori, have a daughter, Riley.in addition to his role in player personnel, Abraham handlesadvance scouting of upcoming <strong>Chargers</strong> opponents.Abraham spent five years in the personnel department forthe Buffalo Bills, helping prepare the defensive game analysisfor the coaches. He also served as the Bills’ training campcoordinator from 1998-00.Born in Buffalo, New York, Abraham attended Akron Central(N.Y.) High School, competing in football, basketball andbaseball. He then played center and tackle at Baldwin-WallaceCollege in Berea, Ohio, graduating in 1993 with a degreein sports management. This fall, Abraham will be inductedonto the Wall of Fame at Akron Central.Abraham and wife, Amy, have two sons, D.J. and Dustyn.MEDIA GUIDE | 22
