Pulsar 107.3 FM XHFG is the flagship station for all <strong>Chargers</strong> games in Spanishand the broadcast is simulcast in Los Angeles and Orange County on ESPN Deportes 1330 AM KWKW.JORGE VILLANUEVAVillanueva is in his 19th season as the Spanish voice of the<strong>Chargers</strong>. He hosts and produces “En Contacto con los <strong>Chargers</strong>,”the official Spanish TV show of the team, which is seen inSan Diego, Los Angeles and Baja California. Villanueva previouslyworked as a sports anchor on KBNT-TV (Channel 17)Univision in San Diego. He has 26 years of experience in sportsjournalism, and his play-by-play experience includes soccer,baseball and boxing. Villanueva handles the Spanish play-byplayfor the Holiday Bowl and the NCAA’s Bowl ChampionshipSeries. He spent the 2001-03 seasons as the football play-byplayvoice for the USC Trojans and the 1994-96 seasons withthe San Diego State Aztecs. In 2004, Villanueva received aninvitation to join the American Sportscasters Association.DANTE LAZCANOLazcano is in his third season as the Spanish color commentatorfor the <strong>Chargers</strong>. He has covered the team as ajournalist since 1995, currently writing for El Informador deBaja California. Lazcano has 17 years experience in sportsjournalism and has covered 12 of the last 15 Super Bowls,four NBA Finals, two World Baseball Classics and the SanDiego Padres for the last 15 seasons. Lazcano is one of twoMexican journalists who witnessed the second comeback ofMichael Jordan. During 2002 to 2005 owned, hosted andproduced sports radio show live in Radio Zeta Trece 1270(XEAZ). He studied Hispanoamerican literature at the UniversidadAutónoma de Baja California (UABC).QUALCOMM STADIUMQualcomm Stadium, the <strong>Chargers</strong>’ home since 1967,underwent an expansion in 1997 that included the additionof 11,500 seats, a club level, 37 new suites and a new westendJumbotron screen.The centerpiece of the renovated stadium was the Clublevel. <strong>Chargers</strong> season ticket holders who purchase seats onthe Club level enjoy amenities exclusive to Club members. The7,800 Club seats are wider and padded, and come equippedwith an attached drink holder. Club members enjoy wait serviceat their seats, featuring a menu complete with a variety offood specialties, as well as the comfort of four fan-friendlylounges where they can relax in an air-conditioned settingbefore, during and after games. Restrooms on the Club levelalso are upgraded.The former Jack Murphy Stadium was renamed QualcommStadium after the Qualcomm Corporation contributed $18 millionfor naming rights. Additionally, the total number of parkingspaces at the stadium was increased to 19,000, including 461handicapped spaces, making the parking lot at Qualcomm Stadiumthe second-largest in the National Football League. Therewas a significant increase in restroom capacity at the stadium,with the number of women’s facilities almost doubled and themen’s restroom capacity increased by 33 percent.San Diego Stadium was originally built in 1967 as a home forthe <strong>Chargers</strong> at a cost of $27 million. It was dedicated at a<strong>Chargers</strong>-Lions game on August 20, 1967, before a crowd of45,988. The 1997 renovation marks the second major faceliftto occur at the stadium. Originally built to a capacity of 52,000,the stadium was expanded in 1984 to increase seating capacityto 60,100. The most recent renovation increased the seatingcapacity at the stadium to approximately 70,000.The team played before its first-ever sellout crowd onDecember 3, 1967, when 52,661 turned out to see the <strong>Chargers</strong>battle the Oakland Raiders.GENERALINFORMATIONMEDIA GUIDE | 279
