Unfortunately, the smiles dissipated asthe ’11 season’s script unfolded, following a familiar andfrustrating pattern of events for Floyd. He was off to a solid start in 2011 with a couple of 100-yard games against the Denver Broncos and Kansas CityChiefs. However, in the Chiefs game on Halloween night,Floyd aggravated a hip injury that forced him to the sidelinesfor the next four games. The Chargers were 4-3 whenFloyd got hurt, but lost all four of the games he missed. When he finally returned for an early Dec. game in Jacksonville, the Chargers had fallen to 4-7 and were barelyalive in the AFC Playoff hunt. Not surprisingly, the Chargerswent 4-1 with Floyd back in the lineup.Despite the setbacks, Floyd still managed to postimpressive numbers in 2011. It was also theninth highest in team history among players with at least40 catches. Floyd had at least 95 yards and a touchdownin four of the Chargers’ last five games last season and he’lllook to carry that momentum into the 2012 season.A deep-ball threat with a measured vertical leap of morethan three feet (40 inches) Floyd became a mainstay in theChargers’ offensive lineup in 2008. Since then, he’s caught152 passes for 2,814 yards and his 18.5-yard average isthird in the NFL behind only Mike Wallace (18.7) and VictorCruz (18.7).Floyd’s older brother, Malcolm, played wide receiver forthe Houston Oilers, Tennessee Titans and St. Louis Rams inthe mid ’90s and is now the head football coach at C.K.McClatchy High School in Sacramento, Calif.Floyd enjoys playing basketball, riding jet skis and spendingtime with family, friends and teammates.
