Monosyllabic adjectivesare <strong>of</strong>ten placedbefore their nouns as ; caol-peap, " slender man ;"m6p paipp^e, "great sea ;" bub-cappaij,"black rock."3. This is especially the case with the followingadjectives, some <strong>of</strong> which are hardly ever usedafter their nouns :beag, good; bpoc, evil; pfop,true; nuao, new; peon, old; cuac, left-handed.Numeral adjectives form another exception, for which seenext chapter.4. When a name consists <strong>of</strong> two words, theadjective comes between them as Slmb abbalmopLuacpa, "the tremendous-large Slieve;Lougher;" Garhuin rhfn dluinn TTlaca, "the6mooth beautiful Eman Macha."5. When the adjective follows its noun, itagrees with it in gender, number, and case ;aspeap maic, a good man; pg^ul na mnd m6ipe,"the story <strong>of</strong> the large woman" (gen. sing,fern.); ap an aibbeip lonsancaig, "on thewonderful abyss" (dat. sing. fern.).6. When the adjective follows its noun, theinitial <strong>of</strong>under the cir-the adjective is aspiratedcumstances already stated in Par. 6, page 10 ;oreclipsed in the circumstance stated in Par. 3,page 34.7. When two or more nouns are joined together,and are followed by an adjective which qualifies orlimits them, all and each, the adjective agreeswith the last: in other words, it is the last nounonly that influences the adjective both in grammaticalinflection, and in initial change ; as beanagup peap maic, a good woman and man; peapasup bean rhaic, a good man and woman.8. When the adjective precedes the noun, as inPules 2 and 3, above, it does not agree withthe noun, i.e., it is not influenced by the noun,
