Chapter 3: Methodologyexegesis conducted will devote considerable attention to analysing key terms.Key terms are defined as (a) technical terms, (b) rare words, (c) obscurewords, (d) repeated lexemes or (e) pivotal phrases. During the exegeticalstage, word studies are conducted on words that, even though they may notsignificantly affect the interpretation of the psalm under investigation, providean important basis for comparison with other psalms in my corpus. One crucial aspect of the lexical analysis is to identify all words that occur inmore than one psalm in my corpus and to determine their statistical frequencyin the Hebrew Old Testament, in the Psalter and in Psalms 3-8. Therefore, aspart of the lexical study I provide frequency of occurrence statistics for almostevery verb, noun, adverb or adjective discussed. I calculated these statisticsby doing a series of computerised searches on Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensiawith Westminster 4.2 Morphology (2004) using Logos Bible Software. Theresults are presented using the following notation: ‏,אֵ‏ מֶ‏ ש“‏ 48:7:1, v. 1a”. Thisindicates that the Hebrew lemma is מֶ‏ ש ‏,אֵ‏ it is found in verse 1a of the psalmand it occurs 48 times in the Old Testament, 7 times in the Psalter and oncein my corpus.74
