presenter, assessor or other duties to maintain the highstandard of umpiring in NSW. Without your assistance thiswould not be possible to achieve. Our thanks also go to thestaff of the RNSWBA for their assistance. My thanks also go tothe Umpires Committee for their support and dedication overthe last twelve months.Committee Members: Leo Finn (Chair) Linton Coulton John Hamel Joe Franklin Barry QuailGeneral Service CommitteeThis year the membership of this Committee remainedunchanged from 2011. The many tasks performed includeclerical duties as in the monthly mail-out of correspondenceto all bowling clubs; welfare responsibilities such at thedespatch of condolence cards to the next of kin of deceasedbowlers as well as compiling a bereavement list for theinformation of all bowling clubs; and the maintenance ofAssociation service records of office bearers. Our returningofficer duties require our attendance at the Annual GeneralMeeting to check and record delegate / official proxyinformation. This year an additional two meetings were heldwith regard to the new Constitution requiring our attendanceand service. The Committee also provides substantial supportin arrangements for the Association’s Presentation Evening. As far as bowling is concerned, this Committee organises andruns annual games between the Royal and such bowlinggroups as City Tattersalls, State Politicians, Past PresidentsAssociation, Master Builders, Maltese Social Bowling Groupand the Newcastle District Bowling Association for the LesParrott Memorial Shield. The Quadrangular Series is contestedyearly and hosted by NSW, the ACT, Lord Howe Island andNorfolk Island on a rotating basis, with NSW involvementcoordinated by this Committee. This year’s event was hostedby the ACT and won by Lord Howe Island. However by far the most historic events during the year arethe Peet Kay matches between the Royal NSW BowlingAssociation and Bowls Tasmania for the Peet Kay Trophy. Thisyear celebrates the 50th anniversary of the competition forthis trophy played twice yearly on a home and away basis andnamed after the instigators of the event Rupert Peet and BillKay, the respective State Presidents at the time. The 99th ofthe three-test series was played in Hobart in February 2012with NSW apparent clear winners in the first of these tests. However NSW was unable to continue this form going downby a single shot in each of the second and third tests. Thisenabled Tasmania to retain the trophy they won in Sydney. The 100th series will be played in Sydney in late August 2012 –watch out for announcement of venues. The strong supportthis Committee receives from the NSW bowlers in our PeetKay Series and games with local groups is greatly appreciated.May I express my sincere thanks for the many courtesiesextended to my Committee during the past year by the officestaff for their help and guidance. Lastly I thank my Committeefor their contributions to the many tasks we are called uponto perform.Committee Members: Don George (Chair) Norm Bartlett John Burke Paul SkeersClub Advisory CommitteeOur Committee received requests for assistance from fiveclubs during the year but, knowing the environment clubs areoperating in, we feel there are many more clubs out therethat are doing it very hard.At least one obstacle to the financial success of clubs, mandatory pre-commitment, has been temporarily put onhold so clubs can now get on and do what they do very well -generating sufficient income to allow our great game of lawnbowls to flourish. This does not mean that we can take oureyes off the ball as there are still many barriers out there thatboards will have to use all of the ingenuity they can muster toovercome. Governments will continually intervene withoutdue consultation, the economy is still on a roller coaster ridemeaning club boards and management must constantly beahead of the game to ensure their “bottom line results” arenot adversely impacted. This is where your Club Advisory Committee can be ofassistance. Please do not be afraid to put up your hand andask for a visit from one of our members when things look likethey could take a turn for the worse. As stated each year, asking for assistance is not a sign of bad management but infact the contrary, proving that the board has the interests oftheir members at heart and is using all avenues of assistanceavailable to them to ensure the future of their club.Again I express my thanks to the Board, the CEO and his teamfor their assistance throughout the year and as always myfellow committee members because, without their tirelesscommitment, many clubs would have closed their doors bynow. Through our committee members’ efforts, over the lasteight years we have visited more than seventy clubs andprovided them with advice that the boards have used toimprove their financial outlook meaning they are still open soour bowlers can enjoy our great game of lawn bowls andafford the local community a place to visit and enjoy thehospitality that only bowling clubs can provide.CLUB ADVISORY VISIT = NO COST TO CLUBThere is no obligation for a club requesting a visit from theClub Advisory Committee to reimburse any expensesincurred by a Committee Representative.Committee Members: Bob Bullen (Chair) Keith Borland Elaine Jarvis Norman JarvisBowls NSW, 2011-12 Annual Report & Year Book Page 11
