In the MixedPairs defending title holders father and daughter combinationof John Vesenjak (Wallsend) and Sarah (Raymond Terrace)shared the title with De-Anne Price and Robert Koenig(Belmont).We are delighted to report that Charlie Frost and the lateCharlie McNeill were amongst the inaugural inductees into<strong>Bowls</strong> Australia’s Hall of Fame. McNeill was inducted as anathlete from the pre-1949 era and Frost in the GeneralDivision for his outstanding contribution to the game of lawnbowls from 1975 to 1999. McNeill established an amazingplaying record winning the Hamilton Club Singles 18 times, theDistrict Singles 9 times, the State Singles 3 times, an AustralianSingles and Fours titles, plus many Pairs and Fours titles. In allhe won 58 District, State and National Championships, plus hewas a member of the Hamilton Club sides which won 8 Districtand 5 State No 1 Grade Pennants. Charlie Frost represented<strong>NSW</strong> on 40 occasions, was a State Selector from 1984 to 1999a total of 15 years (13 years as Chairman), as well as being aNational Selector for 10 years (6 years as Chairman).One of the highlights of the Zone 2 calendar year, theAssociation Xmas-Presentation Night for Executive, LifeMembers, Sub-Committee Members and Delegates was heldfor the second successive year at Windale-Gateshead BC.State President Ian McKnight had the honour of announcing23-yo Matthew Baus (Swansea) as the Zone 2 Bowler of theYear. Baus had an outstanding year winning the StateChampion of Club Champions Singles Championship, the Zone2 Triples and Champion of Club Champions SinglesChampionships. He was a member of the Swansea team thatwas runner-up in the Zone 2 No 1 Grade Pennant, as well asbeing equal third in the State Triples Championship and Zone2 Major Singles Championship. He was also a member of the<strong>NSW</strong> State side that won the Australian Sides Championship(Alley Shield) and at the conclusion of the Championship wasnamed in the Australian Emerging Players Squad. Ryan Steel(Lambton) claimed the inaugural Zone 2 EncouragementAward, which replaced the Most Improved Bowler of the YearAward. Steel beat Matthew Baus in the final of the Zone 2 18-25 Years Singles Championship and played in the Lambtonside that were semi-finalists in the Zone 2 No 1 GradePennant. Sean Cairns (Raymond Terrace) was named the Zone2 Junior Bowler of the Year. Allan Starrett (New Lambton),who during the year relinquished his roles as Chairman of theState and Zone 2 Coaching Committees due to family reasons,was named Zone 2 Coach of the Year. Starrett, as well asbeing the New Lambton Club Coach, coaches the SaturdayMorning Disabled Academy and is a member of the HunterAcademy of Sport Panel of Coaches.Zone 2 was well represented in the <strong>NSW</strong> State Sides andCountry Sides.
