Greater <strong>NSW</strong> State ChampionshipsFours Played at Soldiers Point BC22-23 October 2011Roselands’ Alex Lee, Ashley Mitchell, Cameron Curtis and CarlHealey beat St Johns Park’s Trent Craigie, Lee Such, PeterFoster and Mark Berghofer in the final of the 2011 Greater<strong>NSW</strong> State Fours Championships. After a close-fought start tothe match, Roselands took control to run out 20-14 winners.Roselands had reached the final after defeating CharlieBryant, Colin Neilsen, Graham Amery and Gerard Beath(Cowra, Zone 5) 23-19 after 21 ends following on from theirdecisive quarter-final win over Ettalong Memorial, Zone 15,23-15. The St Johns Park Saints reached the final afterdefeating Nelson Bay’s Lou Bund, David Gilday, KevinRobinson and Terry Antram in a close game which finished 19-18 after 21 ends. In their quarter-final the Saints defeatedRyde X Phoenix, Zone 10, 21-14.Triples Played at Soldiers Point BC24-25 OctoberCongratulations go to Zone 13. The match was even all the way through untilRoselands charged home to win 26-17.Roselands reached the final after defeating Laurie Wright,Sam Laguzza and Matthew Baus (Swansea, Zone 2) 26-16.Roselands had a good win in their quarter-final defeating theteam of John Bain, Mark Menzies and Cory Daley (Park Beach,Zone 14) 26-19. This was the second title for Alex Lee,Cameron Curtis and Carl Healey after winning the State FoursChampionships with Ashley Mitchell.Pairs Played at Soldiers Point BC26-27 October 2011In the Pairs final, the Zone 12 combination of Michael Clarkeand David Holt (Cabramatta) defeated Zone 15’s Tony Laguzzaand Aron Sherriff (Ettalong Memorial). The match wasvirtually even all the way through until Cabramatta chargedhome in the last couple of ends to win 19-10.Cabramatta reached the final after a cat’s whisker close matchagainst Scott Gibson and Joshua Greenhalgh (Ballina, Zone 1)winning 20-19. Ettalong Memorial reached the final afterdefeating Michael Lansdowne and Craig Scott (Kensington,Zone 11) 23-14.Singles Played at Soldiers Point BC28-29 October 2011The final of the 2011 Greater <strong>NSW</strong> State Singles was played infront of a crowd appreciative of the high quality of bowls withAron Sherriff (Ettalong Memorial, Zone 15) taking thehonours.Aron reached the final after a determined win against ZelTrbara (Merrylands, Zone 12) 31-24 in the quarter-final and anall-class clash against the 2010 State Champion Ray Pearse,(Alexandria-Erskineville, Zone 11) 31-13 in the semi-final.Eric booked his spot in the final with a win in the quarter-finalagainst Ashley Klose (Grandviews, Zone 13) 31-20 and a solidwin in the semi-final over David Quigley (Young, Zone 8) 31-22.Aron got away to a great start and continued to play precisionbowls skipping away to a 17-4 lead before Eric got 2 shotsback with some great draw bowls of his own, making it 17-6.This was the beginning of a good fight-back by Eric whocontinued to out-draw Aron winning 3 of the next 4 ends. Ericagain picked up a shot before Aron played a great conversionshot to score 3 shots, the score now 21-15.
