Molong finishedwinners with a margin of 19 and winning on all three rinks. They had been runners-up for Grade 5 in 2010 and had beenundefeated throughout this Pennant season.Grade 5: Played at Western Suburbs Leagues BCGreenacre 64 def Uralla 45R Hunt, D Ireland, ACampbell, & C Gavin24 def K Reading, D Walters,L Ward & D9M Munro, A Smith, WMassey, & WLawrenceM Akeripa, BStansfield, W Evans, &J DentKleindeinst24 def K Woodhouse, MSwift, J Hudson & PLeggatt16 losttoC Rummery, DWestbury, DKleindeinst & SKleindeinstA great day in bowls all round. Greenacre celebrated theirgreatest day in bowls by winning their first-ever StatePennants. Formed in the 1940s, it took until 10 years agobefore they played off for their first Pennant flag and their 19-shot, two-rinks to one win was an emotional one. For the tinyclub Uralla, just making the final was a magnificentachievement. In a sign the club is building, they made thePennant play-off semi-finals last year and now the finals.“There’s only one more step to go” said Uralla team manager.1422Grade 6: Played at GymeaMounties 70 def Fairy Meadow 55D Nand, M24 def D Jackson, K Reed, G 18Thompson,L Sherlock& W HopleyJones & A ChilbyR Reid, P Deans, M 25 def A Softley, L Prior, B 17Crossland & P BeechJackson & G CraigP White, K Betts, R 21 def N Denham, G Lester, 20Staats & J WinstanleyE McGirr & P GrewThe Mounties won their first Pennant flag beating adetermined Fairy Meadow 70-55 in the final. With onlyaround 50 Pennant players, Mounties is one of the State’syoungest - formed in 1996 – but has already won four Zoneflags. Meanwhile for Fairy Meadow, formed in the 1950s, thiswas their first time any team had played off for a State flag.Through the sectional play, they certainly looked like one ofthe teams to beat. “This result will give us an impetus for thenext ten years” Fairy Meadows Ian Kenny said.Grade 7: Played at Ettalong Memorial BCEast Maitland 61 def Nyngan 60D Nand, M Thompson,L Sherlock & WHopley24 def D Jackson, K Reed,G Jones & A Chilby18R Reid, P Deans,M Crossland & PBeechP White, K Betts,R Staats & JWinstanley25 def A Softley, L Prior,B Jackson & G Craig21 def N Denham, G Lester,E McGirr & P GrewWhat a cliff-hanger! The two semi-finals were close-foughtaffairs, both won by only 4 shots. From there both EastMaitland and Nyngan went straight into it, each striving for anadvantage. At end 4 it was tied 4-4 and at end 42, tied 41-41.From then on East Maitland steadily applied the pressure topull ahead with Nyngan throwing everything into closing thegap. Supporters were nigh on having heart attacks with thedifference a mere one shot. For East Maitland it had been 10years since the club had made it to a Pennant State final.1720Bowls NSW, 2011-12 Annual Report & Year Book Page 14
