MONITORING AND EVALUATION ACTIVITIES FOR SUBSTANCEABUSE TREATMENT FACILITIESThis section describes the extent to which substance abuse treatment facilities in FreeState, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and Northern Cape conduct monitoring andevaluation (M & E) activities.Core findings:• Most facilities have structures that allow for the within-treatment monitoring of clients• Over half of the facilities report post-discharge monitoring of clients• Overall, the average proportion of clients monitored once they complete treatment is45.8 (SD = 33.1)• Just over half of facilities monitor clients on an ad hoc basis or on request of familymembers• Less than half of the facilities had conducted an outcome evaluation of their treatmentprogramme• Equal proportions of facilities in all 5 provinces had conducted a process evaluation oftheir treatment programme/s as well as evaluated the quality of their treatmentprogrammes59
