Therefore, these ions are potentially ideal fordisplacement in guest inclusion studies as there is no competition for the metal ion or187, 188the anion binding cavity with potential guest species. Thenature of theinteractions between the perchlorate ions and the complex cation was confirmed asbeing essentially ionic through molar electrical conductivity studies in DMF, whichgave a value of 128 Ω −1 cm 2 mol -1 , demonstrating that in this medium, receptor 49166, 189behaves as a 2:1 electrolyte and is thus fully dissociated.51
