Residents of Kudepsta, Sochi, protest theproposed construction in their mountainvillage of what was projected to be theworld’s largest natural gas power station.The plant was to be part of infrastructuredevelopment in Sochi ahead of the 2014Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.Before environmental review and otherlegally required procedures werecompleted, workers built a bridge, felledtrees, and erected a large fence at thepower plant site. Residents painted “No tothe Kudepsta power station!” on the bridge.Residents fear pollution, propertydevaluation, and devastation of thelandscape and the town’s appeal as atourist destination.67
