NRI Annual Research Report 2001-2002Project Title:Design and Construction of High Impedance Relay forDistribution NetworkDepartment: SubstationsProject Manager: P. PournabiContractor: Niroo Research Institute Project Code: 6201Project Staff: M. Halati, M. Jamei, M.R. Jafari, F. Farbiz, D. Mohammadzadeh,M. karamiSummary:A high impedance fault is characterized by having an impedance sufficiently high that itis not detected by conventional over current protection such as fuses and over currentrelays. This fault produces current levels in the 0 to 50 ampere range. Detection of such faultsis done by analyzing current and voltage signals of different phases in fault detectionalgorithms. High-impedance Relay is capable of doing real-time computation usingseveral fault detection algorithms.High-Impedance RelayProject Results:In addition to high-impedance fault detection, the relay can provide thefollowing optional protection:− Instantaneous over Current− Time Over Current− Earth Fault− Breaker Failure35
