ElmdoustSummary:The success achieved in the previous project of “design and manufacturing 63 KVComposite Insulators” along with the experience gained, lead to the development of 20& 33 KV Pin-type Composite Insulators. The main aim of the project was to obtain theknow-how for design and manufacturing of composite pin-type insulators with suchproved advantages of low weight, flexibility and longer life –time in pollutedenvironments, over their porcelain counterparts. In the present work 5 different designsof composite pin-type insulators have been developed according to the desiredproperties and the specific conditions of service.Project Results:Detailed electrical and mechanical design specifications have been developedfor 20 &33 KV composite pin-type insulators. Optimized rubber formulation forhousing and sheds has been devised for applications under contaminatedconditions, and 5 different designs of Composite Structure have been presentedbased on the mechanical loads applied in service.Finally, samples of 20 and 33 KV composite pin-type insulators weremanufactured in NRI workshop which passed the standard electrical andmechanical tests with satisfactory results−Project Documentation:Ceramic & Polymer Department; Report of “An Investigation on CompositePin-type Insulators and Sample Manufacturing” in 2 volumes; Chemistry &Materials Research Center; NRI.IEC, ANSI and IEEE standards for Electrical and Mechanical tests on pintypeinsulators−72
