NRI Annual Research Report 2001-2002Project Title:Plan of Corrosion LaboratoryDepartment: MetallurgyContractor: Niroo Research InstituteProject Staff: A.A. ZhaamProject Manager: D. RezakhaniProject Code: PCHPN06Summary:One of the important problems in Iran power industry is corrosion of its equipment andinstallations. Corrosion affects the various parts of power generation, transmission anddistribution systems. Forced outage of power plants due to corrosion brings aboutdecrease in power generation and huge losses. Mechanism of corrosion depends onservice and environmental condition as well as materials type and characteristics. Inorder to reduce or prevent corrosion in power industry, it is necessary to study each caseindependently. Various laboratory experiments and field tests are required to determinethe corrosion mechanism and the root causes. Then suitable prevention methods shouldbe tested in both laboratory and field to determine the optimum one. Finally theoptimum corrosion prevention method is applied in industry. Therefore a completecorrosion laboratory is necessary for performing experiments. At present, there is notsuch a laboratory in NRI or other affiliated companies of Ministry of Energy and theaim of this project is to prepare a report including necessary information for establishingcorrosion laboratory.Project Results:Preparing the plan of corrosion lab and determining the technicalspecifications of the required lab instruments.Project Documentation:− Metallurgy Department; Final report of “Preparing the plan of corrosion lab”;Chemistry & Materials Research Center; NRI;2001.65
