NRI Annual Research Report 2001-2002Project Title:Research & Development of a SCADA (Supervisory Control &Data Acquisition) SoftwareDepartment: Dispatching & Telemetry Project Manager: M. EnayatiContractor: Niroo Research Plan Project Code: PDIPT02Project Staff: M. Kavousian, A. Tavakkoli, Sh. MokarizadehSummary:This project has been contracted in 1997 by MATN and transferred to NRI in early1999 and finished in Mar. 2002. The main purpose of this project was to elicit technicalknowledge for developing a SCADA system and implementing a software to be used indispatching centers for electrical networks as well as gas and water networks. The developed software provides the SCADA basic functions: Gathering raw field datafrom Remote Terminal Units (RTU), it carries out related processing and calculationand views the real-time information in a user-friendly graphical manner. The softwarealso can redirect dispatcher control commands to remote stations, process and viewalarms and events as well as handling them.Based on client/server architecture, this system can be employed on a WindowsNT/2000 network. The IEC60870-5-101 interface to RTU’s is achieved on DataAcquisition &Control (DAC) modules implemented on embedded boards, which can bescaled to fit the application. The system kernel includes Data Processing, Alarm/Event,Archive, and Calculation servers. The human machine interface consists of GUI, UCI,Alarm/Event client and Archive client. Graphical User Interface (GUI) client viewsreal-time data of the network with various features such as zooming, panning anddeclutering and let the dispatcher to send control commands. User Command Interface(UCI) subsystem does the data definition, which can be used by system engineer foroperational use and installation. Alarm/Event client, supporting features of grouping, sorting, etc., notifies dispatchers of alarms and events of the field or system and enablesthem to handle these alarms. By means of archive client, users can retrieve selectedarchived data in trend form or import to other softwares.48
