Connecting and DisconnectingCommunication with the system controllers that are operating with the Protege System Management Suite isachieved by making an RS-485 network connection. Once connected the Protege System Management Suitemaintains the connection until disconnected by an operator.ConnectingTo connect to a controller:1. Select the Communications tab in the Programming window.2. Select the controller from the list displayed.3. Click Connect. This opens the Connect window.4. Click Connect to proceed.5. Progress is shown as the connection is made. Once the connection is established the Connect window isclosed and the onscreen status is updated.iRight clicking the controller and selecting the connect option does not show the progress of theconnection.DisconnectingTo disconnect a controller:1. Controller Time and Date SettingIf required, the time and date settings of a controller can be updated manually. It is important to note that whendoing this, the updated controller date and time is taken from the system clock of the computer that is initiatingthe update task.To update the time and date for a controller1. Select the Communications tab in the Programming window.2. Select the controller you wish to update from the list displayed.3. Right-click and choose Update Time.4. The system time and date of the local computer is applied to the controller.5. An event appears in the live event window (if live events are enabled) indicating that the time and date hasbeen successfully updated.Enabling Live Event UploadBy default live events are not uploaded to the Event and Alarm window.To enable live event upload:1. Select the Panel Options button from the Controller tab.2. Select the controller you wish to upload events from.3. Right click and choose Properties.This opens the Controller Properties window.4.
