Fort Knox Mine Technical ReportThe major structural trend controlling vein orientation and mineralization is defined bysoutheast-northwest trending, moderately to shallowly southwest dipping shear zones.The shear zones are typically filled with granulated white quartz, and range in thicknessfrom 0.3-1.5m. They possess mixed phyllic and argillic alteration assemblages andcontain abundant iron oxide clay gouge along the margins. In the vicinity of the shearzones, vein density increases and vein orientations are predominantly parallel to theshear direction. Abundant, Thin, subsidiary shears, are abundant between, andespecially adjacent to, major shears. Figure 9-1 displays the local geology of the FortKnox deposit. The plan shows the extent of the granite intrusive with distribution andorientation of the major shear zones.30
