<strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Knox</strong> <strong>Mine</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>Report</strong>17.0 MINERAL RESOURCE AND RESERVE ESTIMATESThe 2007 <strong>Mine</strong>ral Resource and Reserve Estimates have been estimated using<strong>Mine</strong>Sight, a mine modeling software program developed by Mintec Inc. Klaus Triebel,P.Geo., David Quandt and Chris Ekstrom, who are employees of FGMI, completed <strong>the</strong>estimates. <strong>Mine</strong>ral reserve estimates were reviewed by Kevin Morris, P.Eng., Director ofMining Services, <strong>Kinross</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> Corporation.17.1 <strong>Mine</strong>ral Resource and Reserve StatementThe mineral reserve and resource estimates prepared by FGMI personnel have beencompleted with consideration given to title, taxation, marketing, political, mining,permitting, environmental and socio-economic issues, as well as <strong>the</strong> amenability of <strong>the</strong>mineralization to be processed by <strong>the</strong> mill at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Knox</strong> mine. There are no adverseenvironmental or social issues that would affect <strong>the</strong> Company’s ability to develop <strong>the</strong>reserves on its properties, nor <strong>the</strong> resources above a mill cutoff grade. Conversion ofleach-grade resources into reserves was completed, as all <strong>the</strong> permits <strong>for</strong> heap leachwere received on or be<strong>for</strong>e October 31, 2007.Table 17-1 summarizes <strong>the</strong> Proven and Probable <strong>Mine</strong>ral Reserves <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Knox</strong>mine December 31, 2007. <strong>Mine</strong>ral reserves are estimated using an assumed gold priceof $550 US per ounce and are classified in accordance with <strong>the</strong> CIM Standards on<strong>Mine</strong>ral Resources and Reserves Definitions and Guidelines.Table 17-2 summarizes <strong>the</strong> Measured and Indicated <strong>Mine</strong>ral Resources <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Fort</strong><strong>Knox</strong> mine and area as of December 31, 2007. <strong>Mine</strong>ral resources are estimated using agold price of $625 US per ounce and are also classified according to <strong>the</strong> CIM Standards.<strong>Mine</strong>ral resources as stated are exclusive of mineral reserves.52
