<strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Knox</strong> <strong>Mine</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>Report</strong>1.0 SUMMARYThis report has been prepared <strong>for</strong> <strong>Kinross</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> Corporation and Fairbanks <strong>Gold</strong> MiningInc. to fulfill <strong>the</strong> requirements of National Instrument 43-101 as <strong>the</strong>y relate to <strong>the</strong>estimation and reporting of mineral reserves and mineral resources situated onproperties owned or controlled by <strong>Kinross</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> Corporation (<strong>Kinross</strong>) and its subsidiaryFairbanks <strong>Gold</strong> Mining, Incorporated (FGMI) in <strong>the</strong> Fairbanks mining district, FairbanksNorth Star Borough, Alaska USA. The report covers <strong>the</strong> period from January 1, 2007through December 31, 2007. In<strong>for</strong>mation disclosed prior to this date is covered inprevious <strong>Technical</strong> reports that are located on SEDAR (sedar.com).<strong>Kinross</strong> is <strong>the</strong> owner of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Knox</strong> mine located in Fairbanks North Star Borough,Alaska. The <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Knox</strong> mine includes <strong>the</strong> main <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Knox</strong> open pit mine, mill, heap leachand tailings storage facility, and an 80% ownership interest in <strong>the</strong> Gil property that issubject to a joint venture agreement with Teryl Resources Corp (“Teryl”), and <strong>the</strong> TrueNorth open pit mine (mining is currently suspended).<strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Knox</strong> is located 40 kilometres (25 miles) by road, nor<strong>the</strong>ast of <strong>the</strong> city of Fairbanks,Alaska. <strong>Kinross</strong>’ mining and exploration properties are located within <strong>the</strong> Fairbanksmining district, a nor<strong>the</strong>ast trending belt of lode and placer gold deposits that compriseone of <strong>the</strong> largest gold producing areas in <strong>the</strong> state of Alaska.The Fairbanks district is situated in <strong>the</strong> north-western part of a geologic <strong>for</strong>mation called<strong>the</strong> Yukon – Tanana Terrane (“YTT”). The YTT consists of a thick sequence of polymetamorphicrocks that range from Precambrian to upper Palaeozoic. The dominantrock types in <strong>the</strong> district are gray to brown, fine-grained micaceous schist and micaceousquartzite known as <strong>the</strong> Fairbanks Schist. The Cleary Sequence, consisting of bimodalmetarhyolite and meta-basalt with actinolite schist, chlorite schist, graphite schist, andimpure marbles, is intercalated with <strong>the</strong> Fairbanks Schist. Higher grade metamorphicrocks of <strong>the</strong> Chatanika Terrane are thought to be middle Palaeozoic to Ordovician and<strong>the</strong>y outcrop in <strong>the</strong> nor<strong>the</strong>rn part of <strong>the</strong> district. Granodiorite to granite igneous bodiesintrude YTT rocks.8
