F 198longitude_ and azimuth, between these and the oth(_rstatlonshave been compilcd_and the results published in tabular form_giving the names of the several stations or triangulation points,.the latitude and longitude of each station_ and the distancesbetween the several stations. The course to be pursued in completing the survey of theState is a very plain one : simply to begin where the coastsurvey lef_ off, carry out the triangulation, and fill in the topography.Half the labor and expense of the undertaking issaved to us, by what has already, been accomplished. Therecords of the work done are complete for every Step ofprogress_ and a monument of some kind marks every triangulationpoint. Had the appropriation of last year been sufficient_operations would have been commenced on a side of thecoast survey primary triangulation as a base, and th_ topographicalparties would have worked from the centre of theState to the north and south simultaneously. Under the cireumstanecs_howover_ it was deemed most judicious to show asmuch topographical and geological dovelopmefit as possible, inthe short time that would elapse before tl_ meeting of theLegislature_ in order that the whole subject might be presentedin a clear light. To this end, the boundary line between :NewYork and :New Jersey _i,asselected as the base of operations_on the supposition that this line, having been laid down by ajoint commission, 6ffered a well-defined base line. Time_howover_and individual carelessness, had served to obliterate ordestroy every vestige from' the Delaware to the Blue Mountains; even the initial point was wanting. A_ serious delayoccurred in re-establishing this line so far as the records thatcauld be obtained enabled it to be done. The line determinedon coincided with the one formerly regarded as tl]e boundaryline in the division of property bordering upon it; although_during the last few years_ it had been shifted to one side orthe other, according to the ideas of the local surveyors. Havingestablished a starting point_ levelling for a geological sectionwas commenced along the boundary line, and a base fortopography was measured in the township of Montague.
