It was opened in <strong>the</strong>year 1772 by Abram Ogden, and has since <strong>the</strong>n been worked L . D, at intervalsj by different parties, its name always changingwith <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> its proprietor. It has been known, at varioustimes, by <strong>the</strong> name Of Kinney'a, Sharp's, an.d Bird's Min_.At present it is qwned by <strong>the</strong> New Jersey Franklinite Company,and worked by Edward De Camp, <strong>of</strong> Charlottenburgh,whose namn it bearsr The ore occurs in <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> an irreg:ular vein or deposit varying from ten to thirty feet in width.Its general course is nor<strong>the</strong>ast and southwest _andjits dip is at.an angle <strong>of</strong> ten degrees to <strong>the</strong> sou<strong>the</strong>ast." It is now workedforty feei from <strong>the</strong> snrfaes_ and is fifteen feet in v¢idth. Theore which it yields is <strong>of</strong> a variable quality, some being entirelyfree from foreign substancesj while with a large proportion <strong>of</strong>it may be found <strong>the</strong> constituent minerals <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> gneiss_and_i nsome casesi iron pyrites in small quantities.
