By 1998 all Ford vehicles had changed to the EECV system, except:
• Those vehicles made in collaboration with the Japanese i.e. Maverick, Probe etc.
which use Japanese engine management systems.
• The diesel Ford Galaxy which has a VW engine and uses the Bosch EDC system.
• Transit 94 models which use the Lucas EPIC system.
Harnesses
Until 1981, Ford used a 3-pin oval shaped diagnostic socket located near the battery
or wheel arch on most vehicles. From 1982 to 1993 a similar, but triangular 3-pin
connector was used, which is always located in the engine compartment. In1994,
Ford, in line with most other manufacturers, started using a J1962 16-pin harness
located inside the passenger compartment. However Ford did not stop fitting the 3pin
socket under the bonnet until 1997 and also included a 2-pin connector. From
1998 Ford exclusively used another 16-pin socket with different pin terminations.
For these applications, use harnesses YTD950 or Multiplexer cable (YTD965).
This leads to the difficulty in determining which harness and system Ford use on a
particular vehicle, especially on model years 1994 to 1997.
NOTE: The Multiplexer cable (YTD965) or the CAN Converter (YTD960) harness
must be used for any diagnostics on the following vehicles:
Fiesta VI (MY02 – MY07).
Fiesta VII (MY07 – present).
Focus II (MY04 – present).
Focus C-Max (MY03 – present).
Fusion (MY02 – present).
Galaxy III (MY06 – present).
Ka II (MY08 – present).
Kuga (MY08 – present).
Mondeo IV (MY07 – present).
S-Max (MY06 – present).
Transit (MY06 – present).
Transit Connect (MY02 – present).
The Multiplexer cable (YTD965) or the CAN Converter (YTD960) harness may also
be used with all other 16-pin Ford vehicles.
