The form for applying for admission to the Teacher Certification Program andinformation about the admission process are available in the Office <strong>of</strong> Student Affairs,<strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> Education. Students who are enrolled in undergraduate degree programs at<strong>Michigan</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> generally apply for entry into the program during the firstsemester <strong>of</strong> their sophomore year.To be eligible for consideration for admission to the Teacher Certification Program, the studentmust have:• enrolled in, or have applied for admission to, a disciplinary major that isavailable for teacher certification.• completed at least 28 credits with a cumulative grade–point average <strong>of</strong> 2.75or higher.• completed any required remedial–developmental–preparatory courses.• passed all portions <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Michigan</strong> Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC)Basic Skills Test.• submitted a completed application form to the Office <strong>of</strong> Student Affairs,<strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> Education.Applications are accepted once each year during the fall semester. Students who will havecompleted 56 or more credits by the end <strong>of</strong> the following summer session may apply foradmission to the Teacher Certification Program.Enrolled <strong>MSU</strong> undergraduates who have reached sophomore status (28 credits) by Fall Semesterand wish to be considered for admission to the Teacher Education the following year mustcomplete the electronic application by early October for admission to the program in thesubsequent Fall semester.See the <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> Education website (http://ed-web3.educ.msu.edu/infostu/) or the chair <strong>of</strong> the<strong>Music</strong> Education area for further information.Advanced Standing in <strong>Music</strong> EducationTo be eligible for consideration for admission as a junior to the teacher certification programwith a disciplinary major in music education, each student must:1. Have submitted a completed application for admission to advanced standing in musiceducation to the <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong>, available from the <strong>Music</strong> Education Office in the <strong>Music</strong>Practice Building.2. Have submitted a completed application for admission to the teacher certification program tothe Office <strong>of</strong> Student Affairs, <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> Education, normally during the fall semester <strong>of</strong> thesophomore year.Students who apply to advanced standing in <strong>Music</strong> Education in the <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong> areevaluated on the following criteria:59
