FIRE IN OUR HEARTSAWAKE O ZION!Needless to say, I moved up to Bugbrooke as quick as I could —on my motorbike!During the time at Ashburnham, we realised that ‘Zion’ wasbecoming a place of green pastures and refreshing streams.A word of prophecy came: ‘Your pastures are too plentiful.’God wanted to send us others who were hungry for the realityof community living. Indeed, we sensed that throughoutthe country God was gathering his sheep together. The frustrationand loneliness of Christian individualism was givingway to the strength of brotherhood.The full import of what God was about was dawning on us.Arthur Wallis had said: ‘Find out what God is doing in yourgeneration and throw yourself wholly into it!’ That was ourspirit. We were taking risks and moving fast to keep abreastof what God was saying to the churches. There was an awesomesense of destiny and we felt we were becoming a propheticpeople — hence the hymns and songs, the authority ofthe word and our provocative stance towards the low level ofchurch life we were emerging from. Our confidence took wing;we were coming of age.It seemed that God was preparing his church for spiritualwarfare. The nation was speeding towards moral disaster andthe powers of darkness were on the march. Charismatic adolescencewas okay, we had needed it, but now was the timefor charismatic manhood. ‘We proclaim him,’ wrote Paul, ‘admonishingand teaching everyone with all wisdom, so thatwe may present everyone perfect in Christ’ (Col 1:28).
