Man Star Trucks&Busesproduces public transport buses. Since the turn of 2006/2007 the industry waste management has been implemented inaccordance with the <strong>Environment</strong>al Management System (EMS). The introduction of the EMS has contributed to positivechanges in waste management, both: in terms of environmental protection <strong>and</strong> the finances.Keywords: <strong>Environment</strong>al Management System (EMS), industrial waste management1. IntroductionEMS is part of the complete management system.That includes: organizational structure, planningactivities, procedures, processes <strong>and</strong> resourcesneeded to develop, implement, review <strong>and</strong> maintainenvironmental policy <strong>and</strong> the management ofenvironmental aspects.The basic task of EMS is business in the field ofenvironmental protection [1]. It helps to preventthe environmental problems by consideringenvironmental aspects in planning, design,production <strong>and</strong> maintenance. In addition, the EMSforces to introduce organizational improvements.That allows the maximize corrective actions. And, asthe consequence, to continuously reduce the negativeenvironmental impacts.Entrepreneurs accomplishing the EMS use toolsassociated with systemic approach to environmentalmanagement, such as st<strong>and</strong>ards ISO 14001 <strong>and</strong>EMAS.1.1. St<strong>and</strong>ard ISO 14001<strong>Environment</strong>al Management System certificationaccording to ISO 14001 in many cases is used toevaluate potential business partner. The main taskof ISO 14001 is to support environmental protection<strong>and</strong> pollution prevention in a way, which considersthe socio-economic needs. ISO 14001 containsrequirements, which can be objectively audited,but do not include requirements of environmentalactivity. ISO 14001 is intended for all organizations,regardless of the type <strong>and</strong> size, <strong>and</strong> for use in differentgeographical, cultural <strong>and</strong> social conditions [1].1.2. Eco Management <strong>and</strong> Audit Scheme (EMAS)The essence of the Eco-Management <strong>and</strong>Audit System (EMAS), the EU’s environmentalmanagement system, is looking for the possibilitiesof minimizing the impact on the environment <strong>and</strong>improving the efficiency of these activities [2].EMAS registration [1] means that the organization hasan efficient environmental management system, whichsignificantly contributes to reduce operating costs, e.q.waste disposal. In addition, EMAS registration makesthis organization competitive on the market. Eco-Management <strong>and</strong> Audit Scheme [1] is a tool addressedto all companies <strong>and</strong> institutions, that systematicallyidentify the environmental aspects. It helps to develop<strong>and</strong> implement action plans which allow progressivelyreduce their environmental impact.53
