(iv)(v)a cross-country flying test by night consisting of a flight of notless than one hundred twenty nautical miles returning to the placeof departure without landing elsewhere; andability to fly an aeroplane is respect of which Instrument Ratingis desired, solely with the aid of instruments by undergoing aninstrument flying test within a period of six months immediatelypreceding the date of application for the rating. The flying testshall be carried out in accordance with the syllabus prescribed bythe Director-General. The Director-General may, however, allowsuch tests or part thereof to be carried out on an approvedsimulator for the type of aircraft.2. Validity – The period of validity shall commence from the date of issueor renewal of the licence. The licence shall be valid for a period specified in Rule 39Csubject to compliance with renewal requirements as stipulated in para 3 hereinafter.3. Renewal – The licence may be renewed on receipt of satisfactoryevidence of the applicant.(a)(b)(c)having undergone a medical examination in accordance with para 1(c)abovehaving satisfactorily completed not less than ten hours of flight time asPilot-in-Command(Fifty percent of flight time as Co-Pilot may becounted towards the requirement of flight time as Pilot-in-Command)within a period of six months immediately preceding the date ofapplication for renewal, or in lieu thereof, having satisfactorilycompleted the general flying test by day and night as laid down in clause(h) of paragraph 1 within the same period; andhaving a current Flight Radio Telephone Operator’s Licence foroperation of radio telephone apparatus on board an aircraft, issued by theDirector-General.4. Rating – (a) The licence shall indicate the types of aeroplane theholder is entitled to fly.(b) Open Rating - An open rating for all single piston engine type ofaeroplanes having an all-up-weight not exceeding one thousand fivehundered Kgs. may also be granted if he has completed not less thanone thousand hours of flight time on such types of aeroplanesincluding not less than five hundred hours as Pilot-in-Command andhas at least four different types of aircraft entered in the aircraftrating of his licence:
