Section SFlight Instructor’s Rating (Gliders)1. Requirements for issue of rating— An applicant for a Flight Instructor’s Rating onGlider Pilot’s Licence shall satisfy the following requirements :—(a) Age— he shall be not less than eighteen years of age on the date ofapplication.(b) Knowledge— He shall pass a written and oral examination in AirRegulations, Air Navigation, Aviation Meteorology, Aircraft and Instruments,Mechanics of Flight and Methods and Techniques of Flying Instructions inaccordance with the syllabus prescribed by the DGCA.(c) Experience— He shall produce evidence of having satisfactorily completedas a pilot of a glider—(i) not less than fifty hours of flight time as Pilot-in-Commandincluding not less than two hundred fifty take-offs and landingprovided that a person who has satisfactorily completed not less thantwo hundred hours of flight time as Pilot-in-Command on an aeroplaneshall be required to complete on a glider not less than twenty hours offlight time as Pilot-in-Command including not less than one hundredtake-offs and landings.(ii) not less than two solo flights of not less than two hours durationeach.(iii) one solo cross-country flight of not less than thirty nautical milesdistance.(d) Other Requirements — He shall have—(i) Satisfactorily completed an approved Glider Instructor’s Course.(ii) An Aero-tow rating, if required to impart instructions for carryingout aero-tow.(iii) Motor-Glider rating, if required to impart instructions on motorgliders.(e) Skill— He shall demonstrate to the satisfaction of an Examiner hiscompetency as glider pilot instructor to perform the procedures andmanoeuvres prescribed in the syllabus within a period of six monthsimmediately preceding the date of application.2. Validity— The period of validity shall commence from the date of issue of renewal ofrating. The rating shall be valid for a period not exceeding twelve months from the date ofsuccessful completion of flying tests as laid down in para 1(e).
3. Renewal— The Instructor’s Rating may be renewed on receipt of evidence of theapplicant having satisfactorily completed on a glider not less than ten hours of flight time asan Instructor within a period of twelve months immediately preceding the date of applicationfor renewal, or in lieu thereof having satisfactorily completed the flying tests as laid down inpara 1(e) within the same period together with having successfully completed an approvedFlight Instructor refresher course.4. Privileges— Subject to the validity of endorsements and ratings in the Pilot’s Licence(Gliders), the privileges of the holder of an Instructor’s Rating shall be :—(a) to impart flying instructions on all gliders entered in the aircraft rating ofthe Pilot’s Licence (Gliders),(b) to supervise and authorise solo flights by Student Glider Pilots.Note:- The Flight Instructor’s Rating (Gliders) shall cease to be granted witheffect from a date to be notified by the Central Government, but theprovisions relating to its validity, renewal and privileges shall remainin force till a date notified by the Central Government.
