Gains and high-levelamplifications of 12q14–22 were the most common genomicimbalances, and reflected MDM2 amplification, therebyindicating the importance of this gene in the evolution offibrosarcomas.The MDM2 (12q15) specific DNA probe is optimized to detectcopy numbers of the MDM2 gene region at region 12q15.The Chromosome 12 Satellite Enumeration probe (SE 12) atD12Z3 is included to facilitate chromosome identification.ON CDK4 (12q13) / SE 12Amplification of the CDK4 gene region at 12q13-q15 has beenobserved in several types of cancer, especially in gliomas andsarcomas. CDK4 codes for a cyclin dependent kinase whichis involved in controlling progression through the G1 phaseof the cell cycle. The oncogenic potential of CDK4 activationhas been related to the deregulation of the G1 phase byincreasing the hyperphosphorylation of retinoblastoma tumorsuppressor protein helping to cancel its growth-inhibitoryeffects.The CDK4 (12q13) specific DNA probe is optimized to detectcopy numbers of the CDK4 gene region at 12q13.
